Cape Cod Bear Caught On Camera In Orleans

ORLEANS (CBS) - The bear moving town-to-town on Cape Cod was caught on infrared camera by an Orleans homeowner on Saturday.

Terry Thalman set up the camera hoping to capture images of the bear as it roams around Cape Cod, and after he noticed damage to his nectarine tree Saturday morning, he reviewed the tape.

Orleans police confirmed a sighting of the bear in town at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

It's likely the first bear that's ever been seen on the Cape in modern times. Experts believe it swam across Cape Cod Canal to get there.

Before turning up in Orleans, the bear had been spotted in Brewster, Barnstable, Dennis, and Yarmouthport.

During its time eluding authorities, the bear has gained local celebrity status.
