BREWSTER (CBS) – The now-infamous Cape Cod black bear was spotted in Brewster Thursday morning.
By late morning, a small crowd of searchers could be seen trying to locate it.
It’s likely the first bear that’s ever been seen on the Cape. Experts believe it swam across Cape Cod Canal to get there.
Before turning up in Brewster, which is about 30 miles from the canal, the bear had been spotted in Barnstable, Dennis, and Yarmouthport.
During its time eluding authorities, the bear has gained local celebrity status.
A couple of Twitter accounts have popped up claiming to be the Cape Cod bear.

Cape Cod Beer went so far as to produce a tee-shirt laden with bear vs. beer puns.
