Whipping Wind Causes Power Outages, Falling Trees
BOSTON (CBS) -- The wind is whipping in New England causing thousands of power outages and damage to buildings, trees and anything in the way.

Forget the fall-like weather from Friday. Mother Nature blew in a chilly reality check.
Feisty New Englanders fought the gusty winds Saturday and lost.
"I already lost my hat once," said Will Austin. "I'm holding on now."
WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports.
Alexa Peretz leaned in as she walked down Newbury Street in Boston. "I'm hiding behind trees. That's how I cope."
Saturday morning wind gusts along the water in Massachusetts registered between 40 and 60 miles an hour. In Brookline, a gust of 58 miles an hour was recorded just after 9 a.m. In Hull the wind whipped up to 48 miles an hour at just about the same time.

Meanwhile, weather spotters around the region recorded numerous trees down across roads. In Rochester, N.H. a tree fell on a mobile home. There was no word on whether anyone was injured, or how much damage the home sustained.
In western Massachusetts, in Chester, a roof was blown off a barn. A large sheet of rubber roofing material slumped over the side of a Woburn post office. A three-story scaffolding toppled onto some parked cars at a Red Roof Inn in Saugus. In Boston, firefighters rushed to secure a teetering electrical box from a Commonwealth Avenue brownstone.
Shortly before 1 p.m. NationalGrid was reporting more than 7,000 outages in Massachusetts. PSNH reports approximately 13,800 customers were without power at 1 p.m.
