Boston's Best Oldies Music Bars

Boston is host to many lively bars that offer a wonderfully entertaining evening for the older crowd, as well as the more contemporary patrons. There are live, DJ and juke box music venues that offer new and old tunes for the more mature audience. Libations, music, good company and more are just waiting for the "oldies" at many Boston bars from downtown to the outskirts of the city.

The Liberty Hotel, the site of the former Charles Street Jail, is now a hotel, restaurant and lounge facility. The cell gates and window bars remain in this popular, classy bar located in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston. Ironically, Alibi is set in the area of the old "drunk tank" of the previous jail; patrons also enjoy libations on the outdoor patio, weather permitting. There is an entertaining DJ at Alibi from Thursday through Saturday evenings for this mostly older crowd to enjoy as they sip and share cocktails at this high-end bar.

This landmark jazz bar has featured many popular artists in the past, including Harry Connick, Jr., Chris Botti, Michael Bublé and Tony Bennett. There are wonderful views of the Boston skyline and the Charles River from this popular jazz club. The live music at Scullers Jazz Club is a mix of new artists and seasoned jazz musicians. The bar draws an older set of patrons. They offer dinner and a show packages, as well as a simple, relaxing evening in the lounge, listening to classic jazz.

Live bands play seven nights a week at Wally's Cafe Jazz Club. Jazz and Blues are featured on Mondays and there are Latin Jazz jams on Thursdays. Interestingly, most of the performers are students from the local Berkeley School of Music or are local//indie bands. There is no cover charge at Wally's, just the price of the libations the guests choose to enjoy.

This spectacular bar is 52 floors above the city and offers live music every night of the week. Jazz is a popular genre in the upscale lounge, which features a variety of popular ensembles. There is no cover charge at the Top of the Hub but there is a $24.00 minimum per person at the lounge tables, not at the seats directly at the bar. The live music entices an older group of patrons to this upscale venue with a view.
