Josh McDaniels Not Interested In Rams Interview: 'My Attention Is Going To Stay Right Here'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Josh McDaniels recently voiced his interest in becoming an NFL head coach again - even in New England - but that doesn't mean a mid-season vacancy would deter him from focusing on the Patriots.

McDaniels was asked during his Tuesday conference call about the sudden head coach opening on the Los Angeles Rams, who fired Jeff Fisher on Monday, and whether he'd be interested in taking an interview for the job in the offseason. He wanted no part of the question.

"I've already spoken my piece on that. I have a short week to get ready for a great opponent and I'm focused on the Broncos. I know there are a lot of things going on out there but my focus and my attention is going to stay right here in the building on the team that we have to get ready for and how we can prepare our team to play the best they can on Sunday."

McDaniels coached the Broncos in 2009 and for 12 games in 2010 before being fired after a 3-9 start. He served as the Rams' offensive coordinator in 2011 before returning to the Patriots in 2012.

The Rams could be an attractive spot for potential head coaches in the offseason. They may not look great in the wake of the Patriots' 26-10 win in Week 13, but quarterback Jared Goff has big potential as the 2016 No. 1 overall pick and they have two of the league's best young talents in defensive tackle Aaron Donald and running back Todd Gurley.

McDaniels did not deny that he would take an interview with the Rams in the offseason. He's just not focused on that right now and was unwilling to comment on the story. Bill Belichick recently recommended both McDaniels and Matt Patricia as potential head coaches, so he probably wouldn't have an issue with anything that would happen after the season, either.
