Pan-Mass Challenge Raises Record $47 Million For Dana-Farber

BOSTON (CBS) -- Thousands of Pan-Mass Challenge riders are finding out that all their hard work, training, and fundraising has paid off--in a huge way.

The PMC will be delivering a $47,000,000 check to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

That's a new record, and $1 million higher than this year's goal.

In August, more than 6,000 riders took to the streets and roads of Massachusetts, with many pedaling the 192-mile route from Sturbridge to Provincetown over two days.

There are shorter one-day rides on both Saturday and Sunday as well, and more than 4,000 volunteers work to make the event run smoothly.

It's the largest athletic fundraiser in the country, and every rider-raised dollar is used for cancer treatments or research at Dana-Farber.

The Pan-Mass Challenge generates more than 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue, and it is Dana-Farber's largest fundraiser.

WBZ-TV is the official station of the Pan-Mass Challenge.
