Pokemon Go Has Some Calling Police About Suspicious People Taking Photos

MEDWAY (CBS) – If you see people trying to take pictures with their phones in strange places, chances are they're just hoping to catch some Pokemon.

The smartphone app that lets players use their smartphone camera to capture digital monsters in reality is taking the world by storm.

But as Medway police and law enforcement around the globe are noticing, this "virtual scavenger hunt" is causing alarm for some who aren't familiar with the game.

"Pokemon Go" is a free game available on OIS and Android phones which is very popular right now including in Medway....

"This PD and many others have received numerous calls regarding suspicious persons wandering around and using phones to take odd photos and videos," Medway police posted on Facebook Monday. "It's been found that most of these calls involve persons playing "Pokemon Go" as they are searching for characters using their phones."

Medway police aren't the only local departments with concerns. Police in Northbridge and Woburn have also told players to be aware of their surroundings and try to avoid walking into traffic while using the app.

In Missouri over the weekend, four people were charged with armed robbery and accused of targeting people using the game's GPS function.
