State Police Investigating Trooper Clardy Fundraiser Scam
TEWKSBURY (CBS) -- Massachusetts State Police said Wednesday they were investigating a possible scam in which someone was claiming to be raising funds for the family of a State Police trooper killed in a crash last week.
A report of a person going door-to-door in Tewksbury claiming to be raising money for Trooper Thomas Clardy is being investigated, State Police said.
Clardy was killed last Wednesday when his cruiser was struck by another car during a traffic stop on the Mass. Pike. He was buried Tuesday.
Clardy, 44, was a Marine Corps veteran and the father of seven children.
State Police reminded the public that there are only two official funds set up to collect donations for Clardy's family, and that they do not know of any fundraising operations run by them or any other police organization that are going door-to-door to raise money.
The two official funds are The Clardy Children's Fun and The Greg Hill Foundation.
