Wait -- Clay Buchholz Is Friends With Donald Trump, Too?

By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- Everybody knows that Tom Brady is pals with presidential candidate Donald Trump, and though it's led to some strange coverage and Q&A sessions with the quarterback, it makes some sense. They're both rich and successful, and Trump's friendship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft serves as a simple explanation for how two such people could meet.

But wait a minute now -- Clay Buchholz is friends with Trump, too?

"Every time we're in New York, we walk over to Trump in 200 Tower and see him if he's around," Buchholz told The Boston Globe of his and wife's visits to New York.

As it turns out, it was none other than Donald Trump who introduced Buchholz and Lindsay Clubine, who eventually became Buchholz's wife. And so, an unlikely friendship between a scrawny pitcher from Lumberton, Texas and an internationally known billionaire was born.

"I always found him to be a good-hearted person," Buchholz said of his pal Trump, per the Globe. "He's a lot of fun, but he's obviously one of the smartest businessmen in the world, given what he's been able to accomplish."

Buchholz added that he's "absolutely" supporting Trump for president, though such an endorsement probably won't register on the national scale quite like the well-placed hat inside Brady's locker.
