Dorchester Boy Hurt Playing With Fireworks Recovering At Home
BOSTON (CBS) -- Nine-year-old Gerry Constantine is finally back home nearly a week after a terrible fireworks accident left him and a friend seriously injured in Dorchester.
He was released from the hospital on Friday night.
In a word, Gerry says he feels "good."
Gerry's friend, Raciel Carbuccia, who is also nine years old, lost one of his hands in the explosion.
The boys got a hold of some stray fireworks left on the ground which they lit with a lighter.
"We heard the explosion and then one of my neighbors running over to the house and called 911," said Gerald Constantine, Gerry's father. "His face is burnt, he has no eyebrows, no eyelashes and the hair around his face is all singed from the blast.
Despite all of those injuries, Gerry has a wish list. He wants to go to the aquarium to see the penguins.
He's got some follow-up appointments, but doctors are hopeful he will make a full recovery.
"It could have been a lot worse," says Gerald Constantine. "I'm so glad that he's not a lot worse and I have him with me. I don't know what I'd do if he wasn't."
