Report: Celtics No Longer In On Tobias Harris

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Celtics are reportedly out of the running for restricted free agent Tobias Harris.

The Celtics were among the many teams interested in Harris, who will likely be receiving a hefty offer sheet at some point this summer. But with the Orlando Magic missing out on free agent Paul Milsap they will reportedly match any offer sheet Harris receives, something they weren't going to do if they signed Milsap.

From The Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett, who also notes that re-signing Jae Crowder ends the C's interest in free agent Corey Brewer:

Sources from other teams and within the player rep community say the C's were also in play for Tobias Harris and Corey Brewer, but as of late last night, those pursuits have ended.

The Celts had a certain financial parameter in mind for Harris, and when it became clear that Orlando was willing to pay big to match any offer for the restricted free agent, they were out of the running.

The agreement with Crowder essentially removed the Celts' interest in Brewer.

A five-year veteran, Harris has averaged 12.7 points and 5.5 rebounds over his NBA career with Orlando and the Milwaukee Bucks. He came into the league as the 19th overall pick in 2011 after just one year at Tennessee, drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats before being sent to the Milwaukee Bucks. After a season and a half in Milwaukee, Harris was sent to Orlando and saw an immediate increase in playing time and scoring.

Harris played in 68 games for the Magic in 2014-15, making 63 starts, averaging 17.1 points off 47 percent shooting (including 36 percent from three-point range) and 6.3 rebounds per game.

The Celtics could have used his outside shooting, but with 14 players on the roster following Wednesday's moves, and the threat of Orlando matching any offer sheet, it's just not in the cards for Boston this offseason.
