Authorities: Mendon Man Fights Police As Home Burns

MENDON, Mass. (AP) — A Mendon man accused of scuffling with police and trying to prevent firefighters from reaching his burning home has been ordered held without bail.

Forty-nine-year-old David Cheschi was arraigned in Milford District Court on Friday, a day after the fire destroyed his home.

Police Chief Ernest Horn says Cheschi blocked his driveway with a van and made some sort of bomb threat regarding what appeared to be an electrical wire around his waist. Investigators determined it was not a danger.

Cheschi was taken to a hospital and later charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing firefighting and interfering with a firefighter.

Cheschi is detained without bail pending a dangerousness hearing March 13. The Telegram & Gazette reports that Cheschi yelled out in court Friday that he was being railroaded.
