State police said that initial reports indicate the motorcyclist riding a 2010 Harley Davidson lost control and crashed, coming to rest in the middle travel lane.

The motorcyclist was identified as a 51-year-old man from Weare, N.H., but his name was not released.

He was taken to Milford Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

State police are continuing to investigate.

All lane reopened on I-495 just after 5:30 but the backup continued.
