Pipe Bursts In Brigham And Women's Hospital, Forcing Some Patients Out
BOSTON (CBS) – A pipe burst at Brigham and Women's Hospital Tuesday morning, forcing some patients to be moved other nearby hospitals.
A hospital spokesperson told WBZ-TV the bitter cold caused the pipe on the sixth floor of the Brigham's inpatient building to burst around 6 a.m.
The sixth floor was flooded and water also poured down onto several floors below.
"Currently, elective surgical procedures as well as cath lab and EP lab procedures are being postponed and the Emergency Department is diverting patients to nearby hospitals while patients on the impacted floors are being safely relocated to other areas of the hospital not affected by the burst pipe," spokeswoman Jessica Maki said in a statement.
"Everybody seemed very cooperative about it, there's really nothing that can be done," Brandy Waite told WBZ-TV.
Waite came to the hospital for a pulmonary stress test and found water gushing out onto the floor just inside the main entrance.
"What are you going to do, it happens I guess," she said.
Patients whose appointments were affected were notified by phone.
