Mother Of Jennifer Martel Says Daughter Hid Troubles With Jared Remy

BOSTON (CBS) --- Jennifer Martel's mother said her daughter hid what was happening in her relationship with Jared Remy before her death.

In a statement released Monday on Patty Martel's Facebook page, she said her daughter always tried to see the best in people, even her alleged murderer.

"She was unhappy for a long time and when she made the stand to leave him, after giving him all kinds of changes to change for the sake of Arianna. She was more worried about him and what it would do to him than herself. And you see what that did for her," Patty Martel said in the statement.

Patty Martel said her daughter had a bright future and was going to school to become a teacher and her young daughter was "her world."

"Her life was just (taken) from her by a terrible senseless act. She had hidden all that she was going through very well."

Martel thanked people for the outpouring of support she says their family has received.

She urged people to continue pushing lawmakers for changes in domestic violence laws.

The District Attorney's office is looking at the procedures that were followed when Remy was released after the first assault.

Jared Remy is currently being held without bail.
