Mystic Aquarium's Seal Pup Has A New Name

MYSTIC, Conn. (CBS) - The seal formally known as 'Pup 49" has a new name.

The Mystic Aquarium says more than 8,000 votes were cast in a public naming contest for Pup 49, a female harbor seal that had her rear, left flipper amputated after suffering a life-threatening infection.

Aquarium volunteers narrowed it down to five names for public voting—Coral, Grace, Hope, Madison and Mystic—and Coral came out on top.

Now 9 months old, the public can see Coral until Sunday, April 28, when she will then be moved off display for training.

Guests can expect to see Coral again in the fall.
