WHITMAN (CBS) – Police say the woman accused of robbing four Brockton-area banks was caught because a bank teller recognized her, and actually called her by name.
Kerri Ann Heffernan, 31, of Bridgewater was set to be arraigned Monday. Over the weekend, police arrested her, and seized a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, cash, cell phone, clothing and items covered in red dye.
Police say Heffernan robbed three banks over the weekend,, two Citizens Bank branches at Stop & Shop stores in Brockton and a Bank in Whitman, in an effort to cover her $2,000 rent.
According to witnesses, Heffernan was crying during the robberies.
During one robbery the teller actually recognized her, asking Heffernan, “Do you want to make a deposit Kerri?”
Police are also looking at a similar robbery in Stoughton last month and whether Heffernan was involved.
