Buchholz Stable, But Remains In Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz is stable, but was still in the hospital as of Monday night with intestinal bleeding.

On Monday, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said the team is still no sure what caused the bleeding, but assured the media the 27-year-old right-hander was OK.

"Last night he was hoping to get out today, but I was just in the training room and they decided to keep him a little longer," Valentine said Monday prior to Boston's 9-6 loss to Toronto. "Not because anything got worse, just because they want to make sure everything is as stable as possible before he's out."

Buchholz was scratched from his Sunday start late Saturday afternoon after being hospitalized. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.

Buchholz is tied for the team-lead with eight wins on the season, but also sports a 5.53 ERA. He was 4-0 with a 2.26 ERA in four starts in June, all wins.
