Beckett Possible To Start Friday Against Mariners

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox starter Josh Beckett threw a bullpen session at Fenway Park on Monday, and could take the mound for Boston Friday night when the team takes on the Mariners in Seattle.

Beckett, placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 16 with shoulder inflammation, is eligible to come off the DL on Thursday. The reports were positive after his bullpen on Monday, but his status for the weekend will depend on how the right-hander feels Tuesday.

"He said his shoulder felt great," manager Bobby Valentine said Monday. "Because we have him on the disabled list we aren't going to let the calendar dictate, we are going to make sure he is really feeling good. We will wait before making that determination and we'll see how he feels tomorrow."

"I don't think [his return] will be Thursday, and that is only because of the trip out there. Why have that as another compounding situation we have to deal with? Maybe the next day if everything is going well, but we'll see," said Valentine. "He's planning on pitching sometime soon. I don't know what day."

Beckett is 4-7 with a 4.14 ERA this season. He last took the mound June 11 against the Marlins, allowing four earned runs over seven innings in the 4-1 loss.
