Keller @ Large: Did Gisele Fumble?

BOSTON (CBS) - Sorry, Mitt Romney, Deval Patrick, and assorted other local celebrity wannabees.

A pretty good case could be made that by any measure, Giselle Bundchen is the biggest international celebrity we have in this town.

Listen to Jon's commentary:

Podcast

Even if she weren't married to one of the nation's biggest sports stars, she would still find that everything she says and does in public is going to be talked about.

And so it is with the comments she made Sunday night in response to taunting from some potted-plant Giants fan inside the stadium in Indianapolis.

If you missed it, the idiot fan made a derogatory remark about Tom Brady's performance in the game, and Giselle chose to respond with an expletive and the observation that:

"You (have) to catch the ball when you're supposed to catch the ball. My husband cannot throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."

This is not normally how members of the Patriots family handle situations like this.

They are prone to saying things like "there's no I in team," and noting, as Brady did after the game, that they win or lose as a unit, not as individuals.

But as some of the commenters on this story at our Facebook page pointed out, Giselle had a point.

"She just said out loud what we were all saying in our homes after the game," wrote Sarah.

"She was right on in my opinion, good for her."

But as Marie pointed out:

"You are right the recievers messed up. But when your hubby threw the ball away on the first possession, he set the tone for the rest of the game. Let it go, and stop pointing fingers. When you do that, remember you have three pointing back at you and Tom."

And Donna took that a step further:

"Oh look, it's the Yoko Ono of the Pats. Way to try to put a wedge in a team that sticks together to a fault."

Now I have to say I think Giselle had no intention of disrupting team unity and is mortified to hear that said of her.

Live, and learn.

But I realize, I've sampled opinion without gender balance.

So let's hear from Adam, who wrote us on Facebook:

"Who cares?"
