There were accidents and spin-outs on several major roads in Massachusetts.

The Milton-Quincy stretch of Route 93 was particularly bad.

One crash there involved nine cars.

State police had to shut it down until sanders could treat the surface and tow trucks could get the disabled vehicles out of the way.

Further up the highway, in Somerville, a man was seriously injured when he was hit by a passing vehicle.

State police said his car broke down in the northbound lanes of I-93 near exit 29 and he may have been standing outside of the vehicle.

He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

And on Route 2 in Gardner, a woman was killed in a two-car crash near exit 22.

State police say she was traveling eastbound and crossed the median into the westbound lanes and collided with a pickup truck.

She was pronounced dead at Heywood Hospital.

The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

Headline should read “Overnight snow surprises drivers that were too stupid to view the weather forecast or too cynical to believe it”!

Weather where I am (~15 miles Northwest of Boston) was exactly as forecast – no surprise at all.

When I got home from work yesterday I did not realize there was going to be snow until 1) we received a call about a 2 hour delay for today & 2) my neighbor parked her car in MY spot in the garage because her husbands car was taking up their spot (guess she didn’t want to have to clean the snow off her car…she ended up moving her car) I ended up checking the weather after we received the call.
