Celtics Re-Sign Jeff Green

BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Celtics have re-signed forward Jeff Green, the team announced Saturday.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“It is great to have Jeff back with us,” said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations.  “We love the versatility that he brings to our roster and we think he will be an important part of the success that this team will have this season.”

Green was acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder along with center Nenad Krstic at the trade deadline last season in a very controversial trade involving center Kendrick Perkins and guard Nate Robinson. The forward struggled to adapt to Boston’s system, but showed flashes towards the end of the season.

Overall, Green averaged 13.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 32.4 minutes per game last season split between Boston and Oklahoma City. Green recorded a double-double in his first start as a Celtic against Washington with 20 points, a career-high-tying 15 rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Green improved his field goal percentage after the trade to the Celtics, shooting 48.5 percent from the floor in 26 games with the C’s after shooting 43.7 percent with the Thunder.

For his career, Green averages 13.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He will likely back-up Paul Pierce at small forward, and could see some time at power forward if Kevin Garnett sees more time at center.
