Mayo Expected To Miss Month With Knee Injury

OAKLAND, CA (CBS) -New England Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo is expected to miss about a month with an MCL injury in his left knee, WBZ-TV has learned.

Mayo injured his left knee in the second quarter in the Patriots 31-19 win over the Raiders on Sunday. He did not make it off the field under his own power, and had to be carted off the field as his teammates went to the locker room at halftime.

"He's our top defender. He's a top defender in this league," said defensive lineman Vince Wilfork after the game. "We have to keep rolling, we will keep rolling. The ball won't stop. When the opportunity comes for other guys to step up, they step up. That's going to have to happen now."

The team is hopeful Mayo can return after their bye week October 30 in Pittsburgh against the Steelers

Mayo was second on the team with 21 tackles heading into to the game. He had two tackles against the Raiders before leaving with the injury.

Elected a captain before the season, Mayo is one of the Patriots best defensive players. Losing him for any period of time would be a huge blow to a defensive unit that has already struggled mightily this season.

After the Patriots-Raiders game, tune in to the Postgame show on 98.5 The Sports Hub and Patriots Fifth Quarter on TV38.
