MRI Confirms Beckett's Sprained Ankle; Doctors Find No Tendon Damage

BOSTON (CBS) - An MRI conducted by Red Sox physicians confirmed that Josh Beckett suffered a sprained ankle during his start Monday in Toronto.

"(Beckett's) examination was consistent with an ankle sprain. An MRI was performed that confirmed no other injury to his ankle tendons, or his Achilles tendon," said Dr. Tom Gill of the Red Sox, in a statement.

Beckett will miss at least one start with the injury, meaning Andrew Miller and Tim Wakefield will both remain in the rotation. Rookie Kyle Weiland or reliever Alfredo Aceves may spot start, if needed.

Team doctors said they plan to reevaluate Beckett's ankle later this week.
