Gresh & Zo: Jon Heyman and Red Sox Trade Possibilities

BOSTON (CBS) - SI's Jon Heyman, 98.5 The Sports Hub's national Baseball insider, joined Gresh & Zo (with Dan Shaughnessy in tow) to talk some Red Sox trade rumors as the deadline is less than two weeks away.

Talk started with Carlos Beltran and the possibility he ends up in a Red Sox uniform. While it makes sense for Boston on paper, since they've gotten little production from right field besides a recent outburst from Josh Reddick, Heyman does not see the six-time All-Star landing with the Sox.

"They're one of many that have called," said Heyman, noting the Braves, Tigers, Cardinals, Giants and Yankees have also inquired. "There are a lot of factors that go into this. He has a no trade clause and can pick and choose. I don't think he has anything against Boston, but when they have no trades they like to stick in their own league."

"They're not in that top-tier most likely group," said Heyman of the Sox, "but they've called so I wouldn't dismiss it."

As for the pipe dream of Mets shortstop Jose Reyes coming to Boston, Heyman said keep dreaming.

"I don't  believe that he is going to be traded to Boston or anywhere else," he said.

"I do think Boston should probably get a starting pitcher with all that's happened," said Heyman, bringing up the injuries and Lackey's lack of performance in the Boston rotation.

Heyman has heard the Red Sox could pursue the Dodgers Hiroki Kuroda, who is just 6-11 for LA but has a 3.13 ERA in 19 starts.

Other topics the guys cover include if the Cardinals deal Colby Rasmus; what the Sox need more: a right fielder or a pitcher? And if Ubaldo Jimenez a fit for the Yankees.

Heyman also differentiates the Jacoby Ellsbury's rib injury from last year to Clay Buchholz's back injury this year. These topics and a lot more with Jon Heyman.
