WEYMOUTH (CBS) – A Weymouth woman must now undergo alcohol and drug screening three times a week after appearing in court on Tuesday to answer to charges that she drove drunk when she hit a State Police cruiser and then tried to drive away.
Prosecutors said 28-year-old Cara Dellabarba was coming from a 30th birthday party for a friend when she allegedly drove drunk and went the wrong way down Morrissey Boulevard before she hit the cruiser.
“The vehicle had swerved to the right, struck him in the left-front corner, drove over the traffic island and fled before ultimately becoming disabled in a parking lot,” said the prosecutor.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Jim Smith reports.
Defense attorney Jon Ciraulo argued in court that Dellabarba did not flee the scene.
“The vehicle in which Miss Dellabarba was operating ricocheted off that vehicle and landed in a parking lot that’s just about 100 yards away where she stopped,” said Ciraulo.
The trooper in the cruiser, Brian Quigley, was treated at Boston Medical Center and released.
Dellabarba was released on the $5,000 bail she posted following her arrest. She is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 26.
