Family, Maine Residents Express Sorrow Over Mystery Boy's Death

BOSTON (CBS) - Both the family of the boy found dead in Maine, and residents of the small town his body was discovered in expressed their sorrow on Wednesday afternoon.

WBZ-TV first reported that the boy was identified as Camden Pierce Hughes, a 6-year-old from Irving, Texas. He was found dead in South Berwick, Maine last Saturday.

Camden's mom, Juli McCrery, is currently in protective custody of the Massachusetts State Police and receiving a mental health evalution at Emerson Hospital. She allegedly confessed to giving the boy an overdose of cough syrup, resulting in his death, sources said. She has not been charged with a crime.

Camden's grandmother, Lurae McCrery, told WBZ-TV that she saw no signs anything was wrong and Camden's death is impossible to understand.

"I'm just heartbroken. I just don't know what happened. It's horrible. I just don't know what caused it. I keep thinking it's an accident. Maybe he fell, and then she panicked and covered him up with a blanket or what happened," said Lurae McCrery.

LuRae McCrery added that she spoke with her daughter Juli on Tuesday, and everything seemed fine. She said that she thought both Juli and Camden were in Texas and not in New England.

After five days of prayers for a little boy found along a dirt road in South Berwick, the boy finally has a name.

Residents said Camden, who was only known from his computer-generated picture, has brought towns together.
