BOSTON (CBS) – With the Red Sox set to open the 2011 regular season against the Texas Rangers, here are some fun facts about the Sox on Opening Day.

– The Red Sox are 54-55-1 all-time on Opening Day.

– The Sox are 31-31-1 when opening the season on the road.

– Friday marks the 16th time the Red Sox have opened the season against the defending American League champion. They have played the AL Champs in their last three openers (Rays in 2009, Yankees in 2010).

– David Ortiz will start his eighth straight opening day as DH, a Red Sox record.

– Catcher Jason Varitek will not start Friday, but has started a Boston record 10 opening days behind the plate.

– Carl Yastrzemski’s has the Red Sox record for career homers on opening day with six. Varitek and Dustin Pedroia are tied with 10 others for fifth on the list with two Opening Day homers.
