Tom Brady, Jabaal Sheard Return To Patriots Practice On Tuesday

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Patriots got some key players back on the practice field on Tuesday.

Quarterback Tom Brady, defensive end Jabaal Sheard and safety Patrick Chung returned to practice as the team prepares for Friday night's preseason tilt against the Panthers in Carolina.

Brady was excused from the last two days of practice for a personal matter, not to mention a cut on his thumb after "silly accident" with a pair of scissors prior to last Thursday's preseason win over the Chicago Bears.

The quarterback was not wearing any bandages on his right thumb during Tuesday's session.

Sheard only participated in the conditioning part of Tuesday's practice and made his way to the lower field following the team stretch. He is reportedly dealing with an MCL sprain he suffered in New England's first preseason game back on August 11, and had not hit the practice field since. His injury isn't considered serious though, and with a 2-4 week timetable for recovery, Sheard could be on the field for New England's regular season opener against the Arizona Cardinals on September 11.

Chung was absent on Monday, but participated in the team portion of practice on Tuesday.
