With the great Mexican celebration of Cinco de Mayo right around the corner, The Painted Burro is gearing up in the greatest of fashions with its 2nd Annual Guac Off. On Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m., the Somerville hot-spot will gather a panel of local celebrity judges – including Somerville firefighter and winner of The Painted Burro’s Burro Churro Challenge Jay McKenzie, Somerville Scout writer Michelle Lahey and Jen Che of popular local food blog Tiny Urban Kitchen – to taste-test 12 guacamole recipes chosen from a pool of contestant submissions by The Painted Burro Team. The event will be open to the public, so guests can “guac the vote” as well. And in honor of the event, Chef/Owner Joe Cassinelli was kind enough to drop his own guac recipe as part of our ‘Ask a Boston Chef’ series.

Founded in 2009 by Chef/Owner Joe Cassinelli, Alpine Restaurant Group has a growing footprint throughout Greater Boston with its flagship restaurants, Posto – a modern take on the traditional Italian trattoria with a strong focus on wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas – and The Painted Burro – an upscale Mexican kitchen and tequila lounge.

Joining the restaurants in 2014 will be The Painted Burro DTX, a stylish urban outpost of The Painted Burro in the heart of Downtown Boston, and Rosebud, a down-to-earth American eatery in Somerville. The group will continue to expand its presence in the region with new locations of Posto and The Painted Burro across New England.
