Boston is one serious city when it comes to celebrating the 4th of July. As a cultural epicenter of the American Revolution, Boston’s historical relevance is cemented … as is the ability of its citizens to really embrace Independence Day as yet another reason to party extremely hard. There are a bevy of parties and get-togethers happening in and around the city, from the big and small, great and tall. Here are just a few of the places to be this July 4th.

When it comes to parties celebrated by the whole city of Boston, there’s nothing that comes close to the massive 4th of July fireworks spectacular, featuring the Boston Pops orchestra. Kicking off at 8 p.m. with the Boston Pops orchestra’s rousing and inspirational rendition of symphonic, patriotic music, the whole city comes together around 10:30 p.m. to celebrate one of the nation’s most elaborate and fantastic fireworks displays. Cars and crowds gather quickly on this day, and extra security measures will be in place this year, so get there early. Also note that foot travel or public transportation comes highly recommended when the whole city (and then some) descends all at once. Martina McBride will reportedly be the musical guest and the event will be hosted by “The Commish,” Michael Chiklis.
