Boston-Based Free Wine & Beer Apps

Remember those long ago days when you stood in front of shelves-upon-shelves of beer and wine trying to decide what to get? Well, the Boston start-up sector is working to broaden our horizons through wine and beer apps to make buying, drinking and learning about wine, that much easier.

Here are 5 Boston-based wine and beer apps worth downloading:

Drync
Ever try in vain to snap a photo of a wine bottle label in a mood-lit restaurant so you can buy it again later, only to discover later your camera roll contains a blacked out photo? There's an app for that..(Sorry, had to go there.) Drync allows winos to scan, track, share and purchase wine instantly. Just snap a photo of a label, click buy, and the wine is on its way to your home - yes, even in Massachusetts - we tested it.

beergene

BrewGene
Founded by two MIT grads, BrewGene allows users to track what they've had, record notes, and then get suggestions for other beers depending on preferences. The more beers ranked, the better the suggestions become. The app also has a social networking aspect which allows users to find "beer buddies."

Drizly
Need beer, wine or hard alcohol delivered ASAP? Enter Drizly. The app promises to have your order to your doorstep in 20 to 40 minutes. The app is positioning itself to become the Amazon of alcohol sales.

TapHunter
If you're a craft beer enthusiast who wants options, Taphunter will direct you to bars, stores and tasting rooms that offer craft beers near you. While not based in Boston, the app only works for select cities, including Boston.

pintley

Pintley
A MassChallenge finalist, the app starts by giving you a questionnaire of your likes and dislikes, from there the craft beer recommendations come rolling in. Pintley's database stores more than 17,000 beers. Once you give it some idea of what beers you like, it finds you beers you may love.

CBS Boston
We'd be remiss to not include our own app CBS Local. In addition to news, traffic and weather you get more stories like this one - on Boston's wining and dining scene.
