The shooting of a Beverly police officer last month was the result of a perceived affair, the Essex District Attorney confirmed Thursday.
Hamilton policeman Kenneth Nagy shot Beverly officer Jason Lantych outside a Beverly coffee shop Friday, then returned to the scene a few hours later and killed himself.
Witnesses told WBZ-TV Monday that moments after the shooting, Officer Lantych said Sgt. Nagy had “a couple reasons” for shooting him.
Beverly police say friends and family have spoken to an officer who was shot by another officer and that his condition appears to be improving.
A spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney’s office said on Saturday that the investigation into Friday night shooting remains active.
Police say an off-duty Hamilton sergeant allegedly shot a Beverly police officer. The suspect was found dead a short time later.
