WBZ-TV's Lisa HughesAward-winning journalist Lisa Hughes is a news anchor for WBZ-TV News weekdays at 5PM and 11PM with co-anchor David Wade. Hughes joined the station in June 2000 after working as a correspondent for CBS Newspath, the CBS-TV Station Group’s satellite news service.

Lisa has covered just about every major news event in New England, and she has had the pleasure of interviewing many of the area’s newsmakers.

Before joining CBS, Hughes worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at KIRO-TV in Seattle, Washington beginning in 1995. She was a main anchor and reporter for KBCI-TV in Boise, Idaho from 1992-1994, and was an anchor and reporter for KCBY-TV in Coos Bay, Oregon from 1991-1992.

Among her many honors for her work in journalism, in 2014 Hughes received both a Columbia DuPont Award as well as a 2013 George Foster Peabody Award as part of WBZ-TV’s team coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings. In 2008 Lisa received an Emmy Award for On-Camera Talent Reporter. In 2007, Lisa won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her at-home interviews with the candidates running for governor. Lisa was an Emmy Award nominee in 2000 for News Anchoring and received an Emmy Award for Hard News Story in 1996.

In her first year with WBZ-TV, Hughes was named Best Newcomer in TV News by Boston Magazine and Best News Anchor by the Improper Bostonian. Hughes was honored by the Idaho Press Club for Best Live Shot in 1994, and Best Live Shot and Best Series in 1993. The Idaho State Broadcasters Association also recognized Hughes for Best News Story in 1993-1994.

In addition to her work at the station, Lisa is also involved in a number of community organizations and charities. She is on the board of First Literacy (formerly the Boston Adult Literacy Fund) and often partners with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino’s office for Read Boston events. She has contributed to events to support of the tremendous work of Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, the Perkins School for the Blind, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester, Horizons for Homeless Children and more.

Additionally, as part of WBZ-TV’s partnership with Children’s Hospital Boston, Lisa worked with the hospital on stories, events, and fundraisers throughout the year.

Born in Moscow, Idaho, Hughes received a bachelor of arts in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She currently resides in the Boston area with her husband, Mike, and their daughter Riley and son Dylan.
