BOSTON (CBS) – A man was found dead at an East Boston construction site Wednesday morning after falling about six floors down a stairwell shaft. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said Thursday that the worker was employed by Evolution Iron Works Inc. in Woburn.

Police were called for a report of a construction accident on Sumner Street just after 11 a.m.

According to the Boston Planning and Development Agency the site is set to be a seven-story 42-unit apartment complex for seniors.

OSHA has now opened inspections of Evolution Iron Works Inc. and of the project's general contractor, New England Construction.

Residents voiced concerns not only about construction in their neighborhood but also workers' safety.

"The message I receive as a resident of East Boston is that they're rushing the workers and they're not really taking care of them," East Boston resident Sandra Nijjar said.

"A lot of new buildings, a lot of construction in East Boston and I don't know what happened," East Boston resident Ana Ferreira said.

As of Thursday, the inspections remain ongoing and the worker has not been publicly identified.
