Carl Stevens' Poem: Thanksgiving Celebration

On this Thanksgiving Day I would like to hum
And celebrate a few things that are done,
You might think such thinking is a little dumb,
But I can't help it, I gotta have fun.
At the top of the list of things that are through
Is the election that made us all go peee-ewww.
It was month after month of insults and screeching,
Accusations, finger-pointing and preaching.
By Election Day, what was right was eskew
This poor limping country was black and blue.
So I'm thankful that that whole mess is finished,
That the flammable rhetoric has finally diminished,
The only disturbing sound after the election
Is the Thanksgiving sound of my indigestion?
Now, this is the day for football galore,
Reminding me of something else I'm thankful for.
A pigskin tale veiled in mystery,
And I'm sure glad that that thing is history.
It had to do with the size of a ball
And the crazy story consumed us all.
Each day a new chapter, we could hardly wait,
To hear the latest on Deflategate.
Before that beast had walked out the door
Tom Brady was suspended for games one through four.
But that's over, and I'm mighty glad,
And I'm sure the commissioner's gonna be sad
When he hands the Lombardi to Mr. Kraft.
But all of New England will have a good laugh,
And when I'm writing this poem next year again,
I'll be expressing my thanks for a Super Bowl win...
But for now I'm thankful for the things that are done,
Now I think I'll go out and lie in the sun.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
