Keller @ Large: Will Trump Presidency Be Like New England Weather?
BOSTON (CBS) - It's been one week since Election Day, and it seems everyone is desperate to know what's going to happen next.
So it's no wonder that every move the president-elect makes is being scrutinized for clues to where this is headed. But for now, it appears Trump is intent on keeping people guessing.
First came his gracious election-night victory speech, followed by a cordial meeting with President Obama. That signaled a commitment to etiquette and a desire to turn down the volume from the exceedingly ugly campaign.
Then came a flurry of Trump tweets, stereotyping the protesters and attacking his media critics. Not very presidential, and it makes you wonder which Trump we'll be getting on a regular basis.
In the "60 Minutes" interview, Trump was subdued and relatively thoughtful as he pondered the magnitude of the job facing him. But when Leslie Stahl pointed out to him that appointing anti-abortion justices to the Supreme Court could result in abortion becoming illegal in some states, Trump seemed like he hadn't really thought that through.
And then there were his appointments of Reince Priebus as Chief of Staff and Steve Bannon as chief strategist. Priebus is an establishment type whose appointment will reassure other establishment types that this White House won't spin out of control. But Bannon is a professional agitator who has openly courted racists, sexists and anti-Semites in the past.
Perhaps the Trump presidency will be like the weather in New England. If you don't like it - or even if you do - just wait a minute.
