Rabid Woodchuck Chases Medway Resident

MEDWAY (CBS) – A woodchuck that chased a Medway resident tested positive for rabies.

Medway's animal control officer described the woodchuck as "extremely aggressive." The woodchuck chased a resident near the Idylbrook Park recreation area.

After the woodchuck was caught it was euthanized. Tests determined it was rabid.

The resident underwent precautionary rabies tests.

"While there is no need to panic we do urge residents to exercise an abundance of caution if they encounter an aggressive wild animal," the Medway animal control officer said.

Residents are reminded to keep their dogs on a leash at all times.
