BOSTON (CBS) – U.S. News & World Report is out with its annual list of top colleges and universities, and Massachusetts schools did very well once again – especially in the area of liberal arts.
For the 14th consecutive year, Williams College in western Massachusetts has been named the best liberal arts college in America. Right behind it are Amherst and Wellesley colleges. Middlebury College in Vermont ended up tied for fourth.
On the prestigious list of the country’s best national universities, the Bay State appears twice in the top 10. Harvard University is the runner-up to Princeton University, while MIT comes in at No. 7.
Education editor Anita Narayan says families often have their own criteria on what makes a good fit.
“Graduation and retention rates are important, but of course they’re going to want to look at location, cost, academic majors,” she said. “The emphasis here is on finding the right fit for you.”
