Thieves Target Clothing Donation Bins In Billerica

By Louisa Moller, WBZ-TV

BILLERICA (CBS) – Billerica police say they are dealing with an uptick in thefts from clothing donation bins.

According to Deputy Police Chief Roy Frost, the thieves use vans to steal hundreds of pounds of clothes and then resell them in bulk. Many of the thieves, Frost said, come from the Brockton area.

“Usually two people are coming in at a time. One will go in a bin. The other one will act as a lookout,” Frost said. “The van or the vehicle is usually filled to the brim with hundreds of pounds of clothing.”

Then, the clothing is resold at flea markets or online, Frost said.

Larry Kadlec told WBZ-TV that he saw two men stealing from the clothing donation bins outside of the restaurant where he worked. One of them, he said, was almost entirely inside a bin.

“It’s crazy. That’s why I came out here. You can’t steal from Goodwill. What’s wrong with people,” Kadlec said.

Police say stealing a certain amount of clothing from the bins is a felony.

  1. Half of those bins are left by thieves anyway. They are NOT a non-profit organization. These bins don’t say “Goodwill”. They say, “Public Clothing Drop”. So it is a thief stealing from a thief. The pickpocket got pickpocketed. Boo hoo.

  2. Holmes says:

Were the thieves White? Black? Asian? Hispanic? I’ll put my money on Pakistani or Indian. Although in Obama’s PC world, you never know. Feral White teenagers are most likely to blame.

  3. Lilly says:

If you want to find these clothes just go to the Lynn Flea Market on A1A in Lynn. They all have no problem telling people that is where they get their merchandise. Just look for the sellers with all the clothes and shoes.

  4. Mayy says:

All being sold in Dorchester. At the Pilgrim Church. On Sat. Much of the better stuff is sold in Cape Verde. And your paying for these’s thiefs. Living in public housing.. In South Boston. Great Country.
