Man Attacked With Hammer During Dighton Home Invasion

DIGHTON (CBS) -- A Rhode Island man is under arrest for allegedly burglarizing a home in Dighton and attacking a man inside the home with a hammer.

Police responded to reports of a home invasion on Tremont Street around 4a.m. on Saturday.

A man and woman in the home told police they were held at gunpoint, tied up, and robbed by 3 or 4 men. The man, who was covered in blood, told police he was beaten with a hammer.

The home invaders smashed through a glass sliding door in the back of the home and ran away when police arrived.

Responding officers arrested a man sitting in a running car in front of the home. That man, 26-year-old Jessi Peralta, of Lincoln, RI, was arraigned on at least a dozen charges including armed robbery and assault. He is being held on $25,000 bail.
