Bruins Sign Veteran Center Dominic Moore
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins have added another center, signing veteran Dominic Moore to a one-year deal on Tuesday.
The team announced the signing of Moore to a one-year, $900,000 one-way contract.
Moore, 36, has made quite the rounds in the NHL, playing for the Rangers, Penguins, Wild, Maple Leafs, Sabres, Panthers, Canadiens, Lightning, Sharks and then the Rangers again. In his career, he's scored 85 goals and added 156 assists in 765 games. He's tallied 28 points (12-16-28) in 93 postseason games.
Moore is no stranger to the area, having played four years at Harvard from 1999-2003. At Harvard, he tallied 147 points (64-83-147) in 128 games. His performance as a freshman led to his being drafted in the third round of the 2000 draft by the New York Rangers.
Moore and his wife lived in Cambridge before she passed away due to cancer in 2013. Their heart-wrenching story was captured by ESPN in 2014.
Moore did not play for the entire 2013 lockout-shortened season, but signed with the Rangers in the summer of 2013. Since returning, he's played 235 games for the Rangers, scoring 22 goals with 38 assists. He was the recipient of the 2013-14 Bill Masterton Trophy, an award given to the player who "best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey."
Moore joins a crowded group of centers on the Bruins roster, which includes Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, David Backes and Ryan Spooner.
The Bruins also announced the re-signing of AHLers Brian Ferlin and Chris Castro, as well as the signing of defenseman Alex Grant.
