Keller @ Large: Anthony Weiner Sexting Scandal Isn’t Funny

BOSTON (CBS) – Anthony Weiner was a man who had everything – a successful career on the rise, a beautiful wife, and, more recently, a healthy son. But after his latest sexting scandal, this one including an inappropriate picture of himself with the little boy asleep nearby, it’s all gone, or soon will be.

His political career is long gone. His wife, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, is leaving him. And after his latest display of abysmal judgement, you can imagine how the child custody deliberations will go. And after two previous appalling episodes where the former congressman was caught sexting with strange women, the jokes all but write themselves.

But while I enjoy a good laugh as much as anyone, I don’t find this spectacle especially amusing. Anthony Weiner is, at best, an addict. At worst, he’s suffering from a serious mental illness.

Medical experts still argue over whether or not sexting is a disease, but surely we can agree that the chronic repetition of risky behavior, even after the sexter is publicly humiliated and the damage to career and family relationships is clear, is a sign of serious personal problems. And how many times do we have to see stories of the damage sexting can do to people before we stop giggling about it?

Anthony Weiner is not an especially sympathetic character. He was a harsh, angry partisan in congress, and his problems are strictly self-inflicted.

But we live in an age when mental illness is just starting to get the serious, sober attention and understanding it requires. It would be a shame if Weiner’s pathetic saga were to set back that progress.

Hmmm. An unstable, narcissistic, vulgar buffoon with a penchant for inflammatory texts.. Where have I heard that before?.

Hmmm….could it be Liz “Liarwatha” Warren??

  2. Keller – how about a “successful and intelligent” wife – she has much more going on than your opener implies.

Huma, is a little more than a terrorist agent with strong ties to the Muslim brotherhood, and the worst of radical Islam, who, like Hillary Clinton, stayed with her cheating, lying, husband because of the power he could bring her, not because there was an actual marriage to save. She is an Islamofascist handler who is leading Hillary Clinton around by the nose and straight towards helping her implement sharia law if she were ever to actually win this election, which she won’t. So maybe you should change your avatar to one with a Hijab since you are clearly one of her drones.

Actually it does have quite some irony. He was a prominent Democrat his wife an editor, as her mother still is, at a pro-ISIS, anti-woman publication. She works for Hillary who falsely claims to be for women’s rights and her husband who she is sworn to serve according to her own beliefs in Sharia Law has dangled his dongle multiple times…..yeah it is funny.

With a name like Weiner, how can anything involving sex NOT be funny?

It is not a joke, and he clearly needs more help than he has been getting. Perhaps, Jon, it would be best not to diagnose in a blog when you truly have no idea of what has led him to this point in his life.

What is a joke is anyone using it for political gain. But then we have learned that Trump and his cult will stoop at nothing…including a shooting death of a woman while pushing her child in a carriage.

    1. jerry2286 says:

You complain about Jon posting a blog about something you claim he knows nothing about, then followup by posting something you know nothing about. Nice.

    2. The Owl says:

It also, Bees, calls into question the judgment of his often humiliated wife, and the judgment of the person for whom the humiliated wife is a top advisor.

If the judgement of BOTH of those women were somewhat sharper, there wouldn’t be the controversies that surround both Huma and Hillary, the humiliateds.

      1. bees_knees_6 says:

I figured the right would head toward somehow blaming his wife for his faults and not crediting her with trying to help him address his problem and also attempt to save a marriage. Ya see, some do take those vows seriously and will do all they can to uphold them. Not on the right as I see the very same tossed at Hillary. The comment (yours?) as to why she remained with Bill is rather disgusting but shows exactly how the poster views women.

      2. The Owl says:

        True or not true, Bees.

Try addressing the point that was made for a change.

  6. Beavis says:

Congress just isn’t the same without Weiner and Boehner.

    Tee hee.

    1. bees_knees_6 says:

I hear there is a coup plan for Ryan. They are on a path to destroy each other….gee, I wish we had an indication that the party was about the implode. Oh, wait, we did.

Unfortunately Mr. Weiner appears to be unable to connect the dots with respect to his mental illness. Sad and tragic for himself, wife and son.
