Boston Man Held On Bail On Charges He Shot Man, Kidnapped Relative

BOSTON (AP/CBS) — A Boston man has been ordered held on $150,000 bail on charges he shot a man after an argument and kidnapped his young relative.

The Suffolk District Attorney's Office says 27-year-old Juan Ayala-Powell was arraigned Monday in Roxbury Municipal Court on charges kidnapping and endangering a minor, assault with intent to murder and related offenses.

His lawyer didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.

Prosecutors say the Roxbury resident shot a neighbor in the stomach following an argument and then fled in an SUV belonging to another neighbor. The victim was taken to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.

The child, 9-year-old Kelvin Martins, was reported missing after Ayala-Powell failed to bring the child home. The child was later located at the Dorchester home of an acquaintance.

Ayala-Powell returns to court Sept. 14.
