Frozen Embryos May Increase Chances Of Becoming Pregnant

BOSTON (CBS) - Fertility experts usually prefer to work with fresh embryos when women are undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF), but according to a new study frozen may be better than fresh in some women.

About 10% of women of reproductive age have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It's a common cause of infertility and IVF in these women can pose some risks.

But researchers looked at more than 1500 women with PCOS and found that those who received frozen embryos had lower rates of complication and a greater likelihood of a successful pregnancy than those who received fresh embryos.

The scientists say fertility specialists should consider freezing all embryos women with PCOS before transferring them into the womb.
