Carjacking Suspect Crashes Into Taunton Home After Police Chase

PLYMOUTH (CBS) – A police chase ended when a car allegedly stolen from an elderly woman in Plymouth crashed into a home in Taunton.

Police say the carjacking was reported in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on State Road in Plymouth at about 1:45 p.m. The victim was in the front seat of her car and the suspect, 26-year-old Anthony Loto of East Bridgewater, allegedly told her that her husband needed her inside the store.

"As the female stepped from her vehicle the male subject pushed her away while grabbing the keys to her vehicle," police say. The woman was not hurt.

Loto fled northbound on Route 3A, Route 3 and then continued onto Route 44 in Middleboro where officers attempted to use stop sticks but were unsuccessful.

The pursuit continued into Taunton where police say Loto lost control of the car and struck a home at the intersection of South Preicent and Seekal Streets.

He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and will be charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery, assault and battery on a person over 60, failure to stop for police, negligent operation and resisting arrest.
