32 Horses Rescued From Medway Barn Fire
MEDWAY (CBS) – Firefighters helped rescue more than 30 horses following a 4-alarm fire at a barn in Medway.
The flames ripped through several building, including a horse riding arena, on Oakland Street early Friday morning.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting the flames. A third person could be seen taken from the area on a stretcher.
In total, 32 horses were safely removed from the barn.
Firefighting efforts were made more difficult because the barn is located a distance from the road.
During the fire, a propane tank in the area was leaking.
"We had about a 500-pound propane cylinder leaking and actively feeding he fire when we arrived as well that was near the exposure building with the horses," said Medway Fire Chief Jeff Lynch. "So the crews did a very good job, made an aggressive attack to keep that away from the building with the horses so that all the horses have survived."
