Tom Brady No. 2 On NFL's Annual Top 100 Players List; Cam Newton No. 1

BOSTON (CBS) -- The NFL finished counting down the 2016 edition of its annual Top 100 players list, and as expected Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made the top-10, finishing at No. 2. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton topped the list.

The annual top 100, chosen by players, bumped Brady up one spot from No. 3 on the 2015 list. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who beat out Brady for No. 2 on the 2015 list, slid back to No. 6, while Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt dropped to No. 3 from No. 1 in 2015.

"For [the Patriots] to have the success that they're having [in 2015] with all the injuries, and just the consistency that they have and [Brady] being the catalyst for that, there's no question who should be the No. 1 player," said Terrance Knighton, now with the Patriots but presumably still with the Washington Redskins when he was interviewed for the video. Others interviewed praised Brady for his unparalleled competitiveness and intelligence on the field.

Elsewhere on the list, Rob Gronkowski checked in at No. 9 while Julian Edelman cracked the top 100 at No. 87. Arizona Cardinals defensive end Chandler Jones made the list at No. 48 after excelling in his final season with the Patriots before being traded.
