IndyCar To Pay $925K To Help Refund Ticket Buyers For Cancelled Boston Race

BOSTON (CBS) -- IndyCar, LLC will pay $925,000 to refund people who bought tickets for the now-cancelled Boston Grand Prix, Attorney General Maura Healey announced Thursday afternoon.

The news comes one day after Boston Grand Prix, LLC, the group that organized the failed race, filed for bankruptcy.

In a release, Healey's office said nearly 4,000 people bought tickets for the race, which was cancelled in April.

Those buyers spent over $2 million on tickets. Boston Grand Prix, LLC paid back about $400,000 before filing bankruptcy and stopping the refunds.

Healey's office also said in the statement they had filed suit against Grand Prix, LLC and it's CEO, John Casey, seeking the rest of the refund sum.

"Boston Grand Prix and its CEO knew full well when they marketed and sold this event that they didn't have the resources or permits to make it happen," Healey said in the statement. "They failed to protect consumers, and we will do all we can to hold them accountable."

The AG's office began investigating the race's collapse last month.
