Distracted Wrentham Driver Slams Into Sign Warning Of Upcoming Lane Closure

WRENTHAM (CBS) – Massachusetts State Police are reminding drivers to pay attention while approaching construction zones after a Rhode Island man slammed into a sign while swerving to avoid traffic that had slowed down ahead of him in Wrentham.

Just before 8 p.m. on Thursday, traffic had begun to stop on Interstate 495 in advance of a lane closure.

But police say an 18-year-old man from Tiverton, R.I. was not paying attention to the slowing traffic.

When he realized traffic had stopped, the driver attempted to do the same but instead lost control, veered to the left and slammed into a large lane closure sign.

The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with a cut on his head.

"The results of this crash could have been much worse for this driver," State Police said. "The moral of the story? Drive at reasonable speeds, pay attention to the traffic in front of you, and slow down when approaching construction zones."
